Navigating tax, earnings and financial planning as a surgeon

For many surgeons, tax is now a real driver of decisions around NHS sessions, private work and whether taking on more is “worth it”.

To help cut through the noise, the Confederation of British Surgery’s financial advice partner, Chase de Vere, is hosting a free, surgeon‑focused webinar, joined by specialist medical accountants Sandison Easson.

This session is designed to give surgeons clarity – helping you understand how tax really impacts what you keep, and how to approach decisions without reacting to headline tax rates alone.

Webinar details

  • Date: 21st May 2026
  • Time: 7pm
  • Format: Live online webinar with Q&A

What we’ll cover

  • How to make the most of pensions without falling into tax traps
  • Where ISAs and investments fit once pensions are building up
  • Why the structure of private work matters more than many realise
  • Expenses surgeons often miss – and why that inflates tax bills
  • When the timing of income can make a difference
  • The key tax “cliff edges” every surgeon should be aware of

A central theme of the session will be perspective: while tax can feel punitive at certain income levels, it’s still a consequence of earning. The focus is on understanding what you keep overall, avoiding unnecessary pitfalls, and making informed decisions rather than stepping back by default.
